Mental!!! Is it really mid-summer?!?!

Planned for today to be a big one, and head somewhere wavey with Martin and co. But the day arrived and Martin phoned saying he was in Oxford and I was feeling a bit not up for it, dunno why. Waited around for Martin, did a bit of work, ummed and ahhed about when and where I should go. Texted Bob but no reply.

Eventually Martin phoned to say he wouldn't be back until late, and he was planning on going out tomorrow instead. I was going to be busy all weekend moving house so had to get a sail in today since it was looking damn windy outside. Had an early dinner then went to Hillhead for a quick one. Not the proper all day wave session I was planning beforehand, but better than nothing.

Eventually got to Salterns around 6.30pm and it was indeed a tad windy. Randomly bumped into Gwyn there mate from Mar Menor 2 years ago. Took a while faffing around rigging the 4.5 on the 430 (had to adjust the head to the right length....kept on getting it wrong). Eventually got out at about 7pm.

Proper mental wind/swell/chop. 4.5 was pretty much spot on. Was sailing well at the start, with some good jumps and gybes, but performance rapidly deteriorated to the bog standard long runs looking to jump, not jumping, then falling in on the gybe. Sailing in the setting sun behind the clouds was cool - created a very moody feel to the session. A really really big boat was moored at the end of the Solent which added to the effect (I've just found out it was the USS Enterprise). Had a big catapult from a jump at the end (maybe it looked like an attempted forward????) so decided to call it a day there.

Not the best of sessions since I wasn't very satisfied with my performance. Got a text from Bob when I got off the water saying he had been at Lepe all day.....ho hum would have gone there if I'd know.
